Synopsis

Enables DNS server policies.

Description

The Enable-DnsServerPolicy cmdlet enables Domain Name System (DNS) server policies. You can enable both query resolution policies and zone transfer policies. Specify a single policy by name. If you do not specify a name, this cmdlet enables all policies for the zone or domain that you specify.

Parameters

-AsJob

Runs the cmdlet as a background job. Use this parameter to run commands that take a long time to complete.

The cmdlet immediately returns an object that represents the job and then displays the command prompt. You can continue to work in the session while the job completes. To manage the job, use the *-Job cmdlets. To get the job results, use the Receive-Job cmdlet.

-CimSession

Runs the cmdlet in a remote session or on a remote computer. Enter a computer name or a session object, such as the output of a New-CimSession or Get-CimSession cmdlet. The default is the current session on the local computer.

-ComputerName

Specifies a DNS server. You can specify an IP address or any value that resolves to an IP address, such as a fully qualified domain name (FQDN), host name, or NETBIOS name.

-Confirm

Prompts you for confirmation before running the cmdlet.

-Force

Forces the command to run without asking for user confirmation.

-Level

Specifies which level at which to enable policies. The acceptable values for this parameter are: Zone and Server.

-Name

Specifies the name of the policy to enable.

-ThrottleLimit

Specifies the maximum number of concurrent operations that can be established to run the cmdlet. If this parameter is omitted or a value of 0 is entered, then Windows PowerShell calculates an optimum throttle limit for the cmdlet based on the number of CIM cmdlets that are running on the computer. The throttle limit applies only to the current cmdlet, not to the session or to the computer.

-WhatIf

Shows what would happen if the cmdlet runs. The cmdlet is not run.

-ZoneName

Specifies the name of a DNS zone in which to enable policies.

Enable-DnsServerPolicy [-Level] <String> [[-Name] <String>] [-ComputerName <String>] [[-ZoneName] <String>] [-Force] [-CimSession <CimSession[]>] [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-AsJob] [-WhatIf] [-Confirm] [<CommonParameters>]

Enable a zone level policy
PS C:>Enable-DnsServerPolicy -Level Zone -Name “PolicyPO” -ZoneName “PuneZone”
This command enables a zone level policy named PolicyPO. This policy can be either a query resolution policy or a zone transfer policy.

Enable a server level policy
PS C:\>Enable-DnsServerPolicy -Level Server -Name “PolicyBO”
This command enables a server level policy named PolicyBO.

Enable all zone level policies
PS C:\>Enable-DnsServerPolicy -Level Zone -ZoneName “PuneZone”
This command enables all the policies in the zone named PuneZone.

Enable all server level policies
PS C:\>Enable-DnsServerPolicy -Level Server
This command enables all the server level policies.
